Having the Right Poker Mindset
When playing any form of poker online on sites like www.pokerstars.co.uk one of the most important things to have is the right mindset.
It doesn’t matter if you have the luck of the Irish or a massive run of great hands, if you do not have the correct mindset then you will never make the most of what you are given and will also lose more often than you win.
There are essentially three main aspects that every player of the game should have straight in their mind before they sit down to play this game and below these three are described in detail, so that you can evaluate whether you are ready to play or not…
The first part of any poker’s mindset should be the ability to make clear mathematical decisions, based on the probability of certain cards being dealt and the probability of their hand being the best one at the table. Obviously this means that your head needs to be clear in order to think about these calculations, so those who have other things on their mind will not be able to do this to the best of their ability.
Always try to play poker when you are relaxed and when you have no distractions – this will mean that the decisions you make are rational and not influenced by the fact that you are not thinking straight.
The ability to project a good mindset onto other players is also very important, even when you are online and can’t actually see them. This means that you must have the mindset of someone who wants to remain level and make other people think that they are confident yet also respectful.
Those who don’t take any notice of the other players at the table and instead focus solely on their own hand will be at a massive disadvantage, so you need to have the ability to concentrate on what others are doing and what you are doing, as well as the ability to use psychology to represent yourself as either strong or weak at the table, depending on the hand.
The final aspect of any online poker player’s mindset is probably the most important though, and that is the ability to have discipline. Many players get bored or frustrated when they get a run of bad cards and end up spuriously betting their money away – a player with a good mindset will ensure that they ride the rough patch through and lose as little as possible, before then maximizing their winnings when the tides turn.
Different Terms in Texas Holdem
Texas Holdem is a form of poker game. It is a fairly easy game to play. The game can be played in casinos and online websites.
The choice is totally based on the personal liking of the player. This article presents the rules and features of the game which will be needed by the new players to know about the game.
Before you play this game, you are going to need to know the proper poker terminology. This way, you aren’t completely confused when you try to play poker at an online site. I can’t tell you how many people accidentally get into the Omaha Hi/Lo room or don’t realise that they are playing at a fixed limit table.
Fixed limit: In this type of game, the amount to bet is fixed beforehand. For e.g. you will find this amount in the form of $20/40 which means the bet limit is $20 in pre-flop and flop and $40 in turn and river. The limit can be known by seeing the description of the room in which the game is played.
Pot Limit: This type is characterized by a limited bet amount but the limit is not predetermined. It is fixed current size of the pot. The limit of the bet increases with the size of the pot.
No Limit: There are no restrictions on the size of the bet limit. There are some casinos that restrict the number of raises of bet in a single game. But this may vary from casino to casino. Experienced players prefer these games.
Blind bet: This is used to start the betting process before any cards are dealt. The blind bet is normally placed by two players in left of the dealer button. These are classified as forced bets.
Call: A betting option is known as the call. It means matching one’s bet with other player. For e.g. if A bets $10 and B “calls” then B will match its bet with $10 bet.
Fold: This marks the end of the player’s role in the game. The player cannot place any bet and has chosen to quit the game himself.
Going All in: This is a bet where you stake all your hand to match the other player’s bet. If you win, the prize money will be relative to the current pot size.
When you don’t bet then it means you are on a “check“. You can check only when there are no bets placed in the previous round. This is opposite to folding as you are still in the game but without any bet.
You increase the bet placed by an earlier player by a process called raise. The amount that is used for bet should be more than the previous one.
Dealer Button is a form of token that is passed in clockwise direction to determine the dealer for the particular hand. This is done for every hand. And it also states who is going to put the blind bet as discussed earlier.
The first round of the game is called Pre-flop. Two cards, referred as pocket cards, are dealt.
The second round is the flop. The three cards dealt facing up the table are the communal cards. These cards are used by everyone to get the best five card hand.
Next comes the turn which is the third round. Here a fourth communal card is dealt facing up the poker table.
The final round of the Texas Holdem is called river and the fifth card is dealt facing up the table.
PlayAces open to U.S. Players!
By now, most people have heard about the federal money laundering and bank fraud charges levied against the owners of the biggest online poker sites.
Full Tilt Poker, Poker Stars, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet had their .com domain names seized by the United States government. This happened because these companies lied about bank and credit card transactions when players deposited money into their poker accounts.
If you are a member of Full Tilt or Poker Stars, then you probably already realize that you can no longer play for “Real Money” if you live inside of the U.S. Absolute and UB will not allow transactions with American poker players (either deposits or withdrawals), but players who already had a bankroll at one of these poker rooms can continue to play for real money.
If you are worried that you won’t get the money in your account back, here is some advice to ease your fears: back in 2006, I had the same fears when Party Poker and Neteller pulled out of the United States. It took me 3 months, but eventually I did receive the money from those accounts. Full Tilt and Poker Stars are still operating in Europe. It may take them a while, but all U.S. players should eventually be compensated.
Here is each site’s new URL: Full Tilt Poker – fulltiltpoker.co.uk; Poker Stars – PokerStars.eu; Absoulte Poker – AbsolutePoker.eu; Ultimate Bet – UbPoker.eu
Play Aces Poker Network still allowing U.S. Poker Players!
That’s right! Not all of the online poker sites that allows Americans were shut down last Friday. You can still play on the PlayAces poker network. This network includes multiple online gaming sites like PlayersOnly, Sportsbook.com and Superbook. I currently prefer playing at Players Only.
This is one of the largest poker networks remaining. You will find that an average of a several thousand people are playing on the Play Aces software at any given time. A lot of the other poker networks remaining only have several hundred to a thousand real money players at a time.

If you look at the screenshot above, the lobby used on the Play Aces poker network should look relatively familiar if you are used to playing at Full Tilt or Poker Stars. The lobby uses a tabbed approach when it comes to separating the different categories of poker rooms and tournaments available. One of my favorites is playing the No Limit Texas Holdem Sit N Go tournaments.

There is nothing complex with the poker rooms at PlayersOnly. Just sit down at a table and start playing. You can even play at multiple poker tables at the same time, just like you could at PokerStas and Full Tilt.
PlayerOnly Poker Bonus
New poker players at PlayersOnly.com can choose between one of two welcome bonuses. You can either choose to get $200 free or a 100% First Deposit Bonus up to $300!
Like most poker bonuses, the cash is not given to you upfront; rather you have to earn the bonus money through playing the real money poker games. You will earn VIP points when you play at a cash game or a real money tournament. For every 75 VIP points you will earn $1.00 of bonus money. When you reach $5.00 worth up VIP points, the $5 will go from your pending bonus balance to your player account balance.
There is no minimum deposit to receive the $200 bonus. All you have to do is download the PlayAces software and log into the PlayersOnly poker room. You need to make a deposit and play in a real money tournament or cash game to see the bonus money in your pending bonus account.
However, if you would like to have a chance to get the 100% First Deposit Bonus worth up to $300, you will do the same steps as above. In order to claim this bonus, you must use the coupon code PLAYERS300PK when you make your first deposit in the Poker Room. You will see the $300 deposited into your pending bonus account.
You can find out more about the PlayAces poker bonuses by clicking on the banner below.
$500 Welcome Freeroll
Right after you activate one of these two bonuses, you will also receive a coupon for a seat into any of the $500.00 Welcome Freeroll that you will find in the Poker Lobby.

In order to find this freeroll, you have to go to the Tournaments tab and sort by the Type category to find the freeroll tournaments. The freerolls are labeled with a gray box with an “F”.
Playing No Limit Texas Holdem
Texas hold’em poker is a complicated game when compared to the other forms of poker. Here, you need that extra bit of skill, strategy, observation and alertness of mind. Texas Hold’em is the most popular game when people want to play internet poker.

This is the reason why this game is so exciting and people love it. So many times in poker, players have to take decisions which they have not taken before and have to scratch their heads and strain their wits to make the right choices. This excitement seems great to some people but can be pretty annoying and frustrating for others.
The number one defining characteristic of Texas Hold’em is the ability for a player to go “all-in” whenever they would like.
This means they are risking all of their chips and may get knocked out of the tournament. Here is an interesting article on when to go all-in in texas holdem.
There are a lot of books which claim to tell about strategies and players should spend time at home reading those. There are new strategies for this game being made everyday and it’s important to stay updated with the latest ones.
However, the most important part is staying away from the bad decisions. Let’s look at some of them:
- When you start with the game, you should play with caution and have a starting strategy. As the game progresses, you should change this strategy according to your observation and the odds.
Continuing to play the whole game in the same manner is plainly giving away your cards. You have to decide at the right time, to make changes in your approach. You many start tight and end up lose. But you can’t start tight and stay tight all through.
If you don’t feel comfortable with your hand and with betting, it is a better decision to fold than to lose.
- You should not raise unnecessarily. Raising costs and it costs dearly if you lose. Make your bets and alter with care and only after doing the entire math. Don’t just make rash decisions about rising.
- If you don’t decide what you are going to do with your hand, you will get nowhere. When you get your hand in the start of the game, it’s normally a drawing hand. You have to decide what you want to do with it.
Do you want to go ahead with a flush or straight, or for that matter do you want to go ahead at all or not? If you don’t decide this soon enough you will be like a rudderless boat at sea. You will be a certain loser.
- The big thing, especially important with No limit Texas Hold’em is budget. You can’t (I will suggest you repeat this can’t 10 times) take a place on that table without fixing your budget.
If you do that, you will end up burning a hole in your pocket or even burning your whole pocket all together. Things get racy on the table and money gallops, so it’s wise to hold the leashes tight.
Don’t try to bluff often if you can’t do it. That is a pathetic decision and will cost you more often then if helps. You will make yourself look like a fool if you do it.
If you have a good player sitting in front of you, think twice before you bluff. Bluffing is not as easy as it seems and you can’t pull it off against good players without that extra practice and skill. So, better avoid doing it if you are not confident. Find out how to spot a bluff here.
All the above decisions can be taken either the right way or the wrong way, at either the right time or the wrong time. Texas hold’em is fast and the no limit version can do serious damage if you take these ones wrong. Avoid them.

It is not imperative to be an expert player to win a game. If you want to win a game you must learn its basics, take interest in its rules and regulations and above all follow certain tips which are important for its winning.
Also in the case of Texas Hold’em, you have to take into consideration certain things if you really want to win the game and not just be lucky. Some of these tips for areas of your poker game that you should consider learning:

Your first step should be to develop a good and effective betting strategy, while starting to play Texas Hold’em. Set your objectives; keep in mind how much you can put into it and place bets accordingly.
Here are some strategies that you should incorporate into your poker game: Make sure that you stay active every 5 to 8 hands or so. If you start to not play at all, the other players will either know you are playing really tight or are not receiving any cards. Either way, the likely result is to be bullied out of hands.
Also, see if you can tell what type of poker player that you think they are. This will help immensely when trying to steal pots and avoiding big losses.
A good betting strategy can be helpful only if played consistently. Therefore be focused and concentrated throughout the game. Take notice of your opponent’s way of playing; try to evaluate it and place bets according to situation. Right evaluation of your opponent’s hand is the key for heading towards your victory in the game.
While keeping an eye on each and every move of your opponents; it is also important not to give a single clue about your hand. If your opponent gets succeeded in evaluating your turn, the situation can be reversed and your odds of winning the game can be diminished. So do not let yourself to get into a situation where your opponent take benefits of your weakness and turn the game in his favor.
Again, keeping a betting pattern going while you are near or above even money while prevent people from being able to predict your hand.
If you are a regular player of Texas Hold’em and not a professional, you may have an experience of losing many games. So in between hands when you have free time, recall those moments when you lost the game, try to find out the reasons behind it and evaluate them to prevent them in future. Taking complete notice of your mistakes prevents you from losing more games in future and can certainly improve the chances of your success. Take a look at some other online poker mistakes to steer clear of.

There is always a chance for losing the game even for professional game players. So be patient and calm till the end of the game and have true sportsmanship if you want to become a true winner of Texas Hold’em.
Some of the worst and most trying times are after a player has suffered from a bad beat. No matter how bad you got screwed, someone has always had a worse bad beat. You even stand a 1 in 5 chance of losing against another player when you are dealt pocket aces.
You have to be able to put the bad hands in the past and not to try and play overaggressive afterwards. You also have to learn from your mistakes. Was there something you could have done earlier (like make a higher bet earlier in the hand to chase someone away). If you don’t learn from these mistakes, you will always be an up and down player mostly based on how much luck you are getting.
The above mentioned tips can certainly improve the chances of your success in Texas Hold’em.
